Teen Flying Lessons

Why Flying Lessons

Golden State Flying Club has been teaching students how to fly since 1968 at Gillespie Field in El Cajon. Our certified flying instructors have created an exciting curriculum for teen students to learn how to fly!

Students start out with a 1 hour introductory lesson that begins with how to inspect the airplane, communicating with ground control and the tower, a 45 minute flight around San Diego where your teen takes control with our flying instructors supervision making some simple manuvers before our flight instructor guides the plane back to Gillespie Field.

As your student continues on he or she will appreciate how the book learning correlates directly into the hands-on experience.

How Much Are Flying Lessons?

$135 is the average price for one-hour plane rental and one-hour of instruction.

What Age Can Flying Lessons Begin?

There is no minimum age requirement for flight training.  The minimum age to fly solo is 16 years, the minimum age for a pilot's license is 17 years, and the minimum age for a commercial pilot's license is 18 years of age. To get started you can be any age. We usually suggest 12 years and above as children younger do not have the attention span and usually are not tall enough yet to reach everything needed in the plane.

Do I need a Drivers License?

No drivers license is required. Many students can solo right at age 16 because they started flight training early.
